About this car
A 1935 200 Sport Roadster at Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York, priced at $225,000. Pre-war Mercedes roadsters of this period are hand-built, limited-production cars; at this level the car's documentation, originality, and mechanical condition carry the price, so a thorough in-person inspection and a review of whatever history file accompanies it are essential.
What the photos show
- red paint is glossy on the fenders and body, no repaint bill showing on the outside
- chrome grille, bumpers and headlights shine bright, no re-chroming needed
- black soft top sits up and looks sound, no new top to budget for on what is shown
- red leather seats look smooth and uncracked, no need to reupholster
- the footwell is messy with plastic bags and loose wires, sorting that is time and money before it presents well
- engine bay is dusty and untidy with loose wiring, a proper sort-out and detail is a real bill here
- only five photos cover the whole car, so a lot is riding on very little evidence at this price
- can't judge the underside, no underside photos at all, so budget for an inspection
Money: at $225,000 the shiny outside does the selling, but the untidy bay and footwell say finishing money is still to spend, so the price looks ahead of the photos.
