About this car
A 190SL at Beverly Hills Car Club in Beverly Hills, California, priced at $29,950 and listed as a 1957 car. One caution before anything else: the seller's own description on the page describes a 1956 190SL, word for word the text the club uses for a 1956 car it also offers at this price, so confirm the car's actual year and identity with the seller before relying on any detail of the listing. At $29,950 it is priced as a project-grade example either way.
What the photos show
- White paint is peeling and rust is breaking through on nearly every panel, so this is a full body restoration starting point.
- Bumpers and grille trim are heavily rusted, so rechrome or replacement money covers the whole chrome set.
- Only the bare, rusty soft top frame remains with no canvas at all, so a complete new top and frame work is needed.
- Cabin floors are rusted through with the seat springs visible from below, so floor replacement is structural money, not cosmetic.
- Black seats are present but sagging and worn, and the door panel is torn and sagging, so a full interior retrim is needed.
- Trunk floor is rusted across the whole pan, so trunk metal replacement joins the bill.
- Engine bay is covered in heavy surface rust on the air cleaner, ancillaries and inner panels, so expect a full mechanical and bay restoration.
- Underside on the lift shows severe rot with large holes in the floors, so this shell needs major welding before anything else.
- Steel wheels and hubcaps are present and a spare is photographed, so at least the car rolls and the spare exists.
- The last sampled photo is an exact repeat of the first photo, so the 41-photo gallery is slightly padded.
Money: At $29,950 you are buying a 190SL identity and a restorable shell — the rusted-through floors, trunk and top frame mean restoration costs several times the purchase price.
