Details
| Year | 1952 |
|---|---|
| Model | 300SL |
| Series | W198 |
| Mileage | 88,793 miles |
| Transmission | Manual |
| Condition | 1952 Mercedes Benz 300 Adenauer This 300 has been in storage since the 1970s, it's remarkably solid and we preserved for its vintage. These are neat cars with an in person presence that the photos don't translate well. The 300 share many parts with the 300SL and were actually more expensive when both were new. This car is obviously a restoration candidate but will be stunning when finished. We are happy to help buyers worldwide with shipping a freight logistics. About this car
This 1952 300SL is offered on eBay by classics-rescue in Dallas, TX. The asking price is $19,000. The car is a manual gearbox. The odometer shows 88,793 miles. On a 300SL, originality and matching numbers drive the value, so the engine and chassis numbers and the car's documentation deserve careful checking.
What the photos show
- The photos do not show a 300SL at all — the car pictured is a 1950s four-door 300 sedan (Adenauer shape), so the title and the car do not match.
- Maroon paint looks dull and faded with an uneven finish, budget for paint correction at best and a repaint at worst.
- Front and rear bumpers are pitted and rusty and the grille chrome is tired, budget real chrome work.
- Two-tone cream and maroon seats look worn, dirty and creased front and rear, budget a full interior restoration or deep retrim.
- A loose steering wheel rim is lying on the rear seat, which tells you parts are off the car, budget for refitting and missing trim.
- Door cards look stained and tired with dull wood cappings, budget door trim restoration.
- Engine bay looks dusty and dormant with a huge exposed battery and a rag left on the engine, budget for a full recommissioning before anything else.
- Steel wheels and hubcaps look dull and the tires look old in profile, budget a full set of tires.
- Underside is not shown in the photos, so I can't judge the frame or floor rust, which matters most on a project like this.
Money: Ignore the 300SL name — at $19,000 you are pricing a project-condition 300 sedan needing paint, chrome, interior and recommissioning, and the money only works as a sedan project, never as an SL.
