About this car
This 1964 230SL is offered on eBay by beverlyhillscarclub in Los Angeles, CA. The asking price is $29,950. The car is finished in Brown, a manual gearbox. The listing does not state a mileage. As with any Pagoda, the floors, sills and spare-wheel well deserve a close look for rust, and the soft-top frame and hardtop seals are worth checking.
What the photos show
- These photos carry the same dealer stock number watermark as another listing in this collection, so this is the same physical white 230SL offered in two places — do not count it twice.
- White paint is peeling at the door and the sills look rusty, so paint and sill repair money is certain.
- Blue soft top is torn at the rear corner and its window is yellowed and cloudy, so a new soft top is a real bill.
- White hardtop is shown fitted and looks straight, so the hardtop is the usable roof for now.
- Dash top cover is peeling off in strips across the windshield base, so dash restoration money is certain.
- Door panels look complete but dirty and faded, so budget for a deep clean or retrim.
- Trunk floor is black-painted but rust is breaking through across the pan, so trunk floor repair is a major job.
- Engine bay is heavily corroded with cracked, peeling insulation on the inner fender, so a full engine-bay restoration is likely.
- Steel wheels with hubcaps look straight and the tires look usable, so wheels are low on the spend list.
- No underside photos in the sample, so I can't judge the floors from below — get lift photos before you pay.
Money: At $29,950 this is the same project 230SL listed twice — torn top, peeling dash, rusty trunk and corroded engine bay mean restoration money far beyond the price, whichever listing you buy it through.
