About this car
This restored and freshly serviced W111 coupe comes with its data card, its metal service plate, and its original California black plate. Two things need settling before you value it. First, Copley shows the mileage as 3,950 with an asterisk that the page does not explain; on a car restored in 2010, that figure needs a direct question. Second, at $99,800 it is priced far above the other 280SE coupes in this collection, which are projects. The premium has to be carried by the quality of the restoration and the paperwork, and both reward an inspection in person.
What the photos show
- Silver paint with a black roof looks glossy and straight, no repaint needed.
- Chrome bumpers and trim are bright, no re-chroming spend.
- Black leather seats front and rear look fresh and unmarked, no need to reupholster.
- The wood dash is deep gloss and clean, no refinishing bill.
- The engine bay is very clean and detailed, no tidy-up money needed.
- The underside on the lift looks clean and coated with shiny exhaust pipes, no floor work showing.
- The trunk floor is black and solid, with only small rust specks at one well edge to keep an eye on, no repair bill yet.
Money: at $99,800 nearly everything a buyer pays to fix on these coupes already looks done, so the price is backed by the photos top to bottom.
